soy Noemi.

Nací en New Jersey y crecí en Rhode Island. Soy la hermana menor de la mi familia, con 3 hermanas mayores y 1 hermano. Mis padres son de la República Dominicana, por lo que para ellos era muy importante poder brindar mejores oportunidades a su familia. Como hija de padres inmigrantes, aprendes a una edad temprana a ser un defensor, a ser resiliente; te vuelves resiliente ante la adversidad.

 Ser una Trabajadora de Salud Comunitaria no fue lo primero que pensé cuando exploraba mis intereses profesionales. Sin embargo, ayudar a las personas y brindar atención fueron cosas que siempre me atrajeron. Al comenzar mi carrera en el cuidado de la salud, me convertí en asistente de enfermería durante algunos años; tenía una sensación de logro al ayudar a quienes tienen limitaciones pero aún desean tener independencia. Más tarde trabajé en una organización comunitaria local que realmente me abrió los ojos a la cantidad de disparidades que existen en el sistema de atención médica. Me di cuenta de que quería estar más en el campo ayudando que al margen. En enero de 2023, me convertí oficialmente en Trabajadora de Salud Comunitaria Certificada. Trabajo en estrecha colaboración con pacientes de Medicaid y Medicare. Ayudo a cerrar las brechas relacionadas con la salud social que tienen las personas. Ser Trabajadora de Salud Comunitaria me brinda satisfacción diferente.

 Ahora estoy aprovechando esta nueva oportunidad en BosWell. Sabía que este sería un gran lugar para trabajar y educarme sobre cómo ayudar a las personas que necesitan que alguien les muestre un poco más de compasión o que potencialmente necesiten que alguien las defienda. En Boswell, no solo creceré profesionalmente, sino que también podré brindar la atención y la asistencia que naturalmente me han atraído a este campo.

I’m Noemi.

I was born in New Jersey and raised in Rhode Island. I am the youngest sibling in my family, with 3 older sisters and 1 brother. My parents are from the Dominican Republic, so it was very important to them to be able to provide better opportunities for their family. As a child of immigrant parents, you learn at a young age to be an advocate, to be resilient; you become resilient to adversity.

 Being a Community Health Worker was not the first thing I thought of when exploring my career interests. However, helping people and providing care were things that always appealed to me. Beginning my career in healthcare, I became a nursing assistant for a few years. I felt a sense of accomplishment in helping those who have limitations but still desire independence. I later worked at a local community organization which really opened my eyes to how many disparities exist in the healthcare system. I realized that I wanted to be more in the field helping than on the sidelines. In January 2023, I officially became a Certified Community Health Worker. I work closely with Medicaid and Medicare patients. I help address health-related social gaps that people have. Being a Community Health Worker provides me with a different type of satisfaction.

 I am now taking advantage of this new opportunity at Boswell. I knew this would be a great place to work and educate myself on how to help people who need someone to show them a little more compassion or potentially need someone to advocate for them. At BosWell, I will not only grow professionally, but I will also be able to provide the care and assistance that has naturally drawn me to this field.
